Unbiased Couples Counseling for Stronger Relationships: Kinsler Psychology’s Approach

couple in therapy
"...each person in couples counseling deserves a neutral ear to hear their concerns..."

I was recently asked a question about couples counseling: Why doesn’t Kinsler Psychology allow someone’s individual counselor to also serve as their couples counselor when it seems to be such a common practice?

I paused and thought about it, and the answer is simple. At Kinsler Psychology, we believe that every person deserves an unbiased clinician who can hear their concerns without any prejudgments or assumptions. Much of the success in counseling comes from being able to establish a strong and trusting relationship with the clinician.

If someone has already built a relationship with their individual therapist, adding their partner to the dynamic greatly increases the likelihood of bias. It is our belief that each person in couples counseling deserves a neutral ear to hear their concerns, so the information is being presented for the first time by both parties.
