Psychological Evaluations
Psychological evaluations can offer clarity, insight, and direction when you're facing complex questions about mental health, behavior, or learning challenges. At Kinsler Psychology, we provide comprehensive assessments to help identify strengths, challenges, and potential diagnoses; and to support informed decisions about care, education, or accommodations.
What Is a Psychological Evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a structured process that involves clinical interviews, standardized testing, behavioral observations, and collateral information. These evaluations help uncover the root of emotional, behavioral, or cognitive concerns, and guide treatment or intervention plans.

“Psychological testing and evaluation consists of a series of tests that help determine the cause of psychological symptoms and disorders, to determine the correct diagnosis and follow up with the appropriate course of treatment.”
— Psychology Today
We provide thorough, evidence-based evaluations to ensure you receive accurate information and effective recommendations.
When Is a Psychological Evaluation Needed?
Psychological assessments may be appropriate for individuals who are experiencing:
-
Difficulty focusing, learning, or retaining information
-
Memory problems
-
Significant behavioral or emotional regulation issues
-
Concerns about autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, or mood disorders
-
Challenges related to school placement, IEPs, or special education eligibility
-
The need for a second opinion or clarification of an existing diagnosis

Evaluations can be helpful for children, teens, and adults alike—and they often serve as a critical first step in determining services, accommodations, or targeted treatment.

What to Expect from the Evaluation Process
1. Initial Intake Appointment
The process begins with a standard intake session with one of our clinicians. If an evaluation is clinically indicated, the clinician will refer you for psychological testing.

2. Office Follow-Up & Insurance Coordination
Our office manager will reach out to you with detailed information about the test battery, coordinate with your insurance provider to request authorization, and provide you with a detailed cost estimate. No testing will be scheduled until this estimate has been reviewed and approved by you.
3. Scheduling the Evaluation
Once authorization is obtained (if required) and costs are confirmed, our team will schedule your assessment. The full intake-to-scheduling process typically takes 1–2 weeks.

4. Testing & Reporting
Testing may take place over one or more sessions, followed by a comprehensive written report and a feedback meeting to review results and next steps.
