A Bit About Me
Brittany Smiley is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. Brittany received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and a Master’s degree in Applied Social Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Brittany also received a Master’s in Human Services with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling from Springfield College. Brittany has obtained an abundance of certifications to enhance patient satisfaction. Certifications achieved include, but are not limited to certification in ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment, Compassion Satisfaction and Compassion Fatigue, Trauma Informed Parenting, Trauma Informed Care for Adolescents, and many more.
Brittany has years of experience helping others with depression, stress, anxiety, parenting, self-esteem, family conflict, career counseling, children and adolescent behavioral concerns, child-parent conflict, and difficulty adjusting to life changes. Prior to this, Brittany provided counseling to individuals, families, couples, children, adolescents, and siblings. Brittany has worked with clients with ADHD, who have experienced many types of concerns including abuse and trauma, postpartum issues, women, and young adult issues.
Life is not easy all the time, and we face challenges without the necessary tools. Brittany assists patients with developing the tools needed to help when times are hard. Brittany’s goal is to improve patients’ mental health by providing counseling in a manner that gives healing, hope, and help to those who desire change. Brittany’s counseling style is reflective. She has been described as supportive and compassionate. Her benevolent and thoughtful perspective is centered around her clinical and theoretical approaches which include person-centered therapy, reflective practice, existential therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, play therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy. Brittany is confident that there are many ways to help people sort through the things that are difficult and she identifies with the person’s strengths to maximize their skills to overcome the obstacle and situations they are experiencing. She offers a safe place to explore one’s thoughts and feelings and a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment.
